Ajanna Brockenbaugh, LMHC

(she/her/hers)

Welcome! I’m Ajanna, a licensed mental health counselor in New York and New Jersey.

Edge of Discovery reflects both my own journey and the process I guide clients through. It’s that meaningful space between what’s known and what’s possible—the place where reflection becomes growth.

My path began in schools, supporting teens as they learned to manage challenges and build resilience. Over time, my work expanded to include adults navigating stress, anxiety, and life transitions. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in finance—but found that what truly energized me was helping people find clarity and direction in their own lives.

Drawing from CBT, ACT, narrative therapy, and motivational interviewing, I tailor our work to fit your needs and pace.

Life can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. If you’re curious about therapy, let’s connect.

Change, even when chosen, can stir uncertainty and doubt. Whether you’re starting over, feeling stuck, or questioning your next step, transitions can bring mixed emotions.

I understand this firsthand, having stepped away from a career in finance to pursue a passion driven career as a therapist. My hope is to help you meet these moments with compassion, courage, and clarity.

Therapy offers space to explore the stories that shape you—and the freedom to write new ones that honor who you are and who you’re becoming.

Common Questions:

  • Therapy can be helpful for a variety of reasons and if you are looking to explore what another source of support can look like for you, therapy can be a good place to start.

  • It is completely normal to feel uncertain during transitions. Therapy provides a supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to create a plan that aligns with your values and goals.

  • Therapy can provide a safe space to explore challenging thoughts or actions and actively working on strategies and perspectives to break unhelpful patterns. Therapy can support building resilience to move forward.

  • Change is a constant in life and often times a lesson is learned from the experience. Making a decision doesn’t mean you have to stay in it forever. Try something, learn from it, and determine when it is time to pivot. No regrets, just lessons learned - and the greatest lesson is what you learn about yourself along the way.
